A thing that has me slightly more pleased than reasonable: I posted my 8th Homestuck fic on AO3 today - 08/08/2012 - and it features Vriska, all by coincidence. Can't keep a spidertroll down. (I have got to write more of her. There's a certain fun in wanting to break off writing every so often to bury my face in my hands and think "Why do you have to be so you?" ♥ Vriska.)

A thing about which I am outraged!!!!!!!!!!!1 - saw a prompt on

avengerkink that asked for a Discworld crossover where Steve plays the role of Carrot - absolutely, well and good. Then it said that Fury would be a great Vetinari, and Coulson a good Vimes. NO! What? To both of those, no. Fury is Vimes! Though the shadowy council losers are certainly not Vetinari; there's probably not anyone in Avengers who'd make a decent Vetinari. At any rate, Fury totally has a similar mindset as Vimes after being forced through the ascensions of nobility that Vetinari keeps tossing at him. (I always kind of wanted Vimes to be promoted straight up to King, with Carrot off to the side doing his creepy-benevolent thing, happy to stay in the Watch and be at one with the city.)

Another thing: I'm making a fanfic rec tumblr. I've been thinking about doing a Homestuck one, but then what about Marvel flicks, or me suddenly reading dozens of fics for The Losers movie? Then there are a stack of recs I used to have on my Geocities site (baby's first website in so many senses) before Geocities went under. If you are prepared to sit through many, many posts about things you are likely to have no interest in, or you are ready and willing to exercise the might of Tumblr Saviour, I guess follow away! Everythingficrecs seemed like a decent name. Actual posts to come later.

Final thing: Tumblr! I had forgotten how bloody counter-intuitive it is to get this site to do what you want when making a new blog. /shakes tiny fist

...I haven't seen Avengers, so I will just have to go off what fic I've read, and from that the most Vetinari-like is Coulson. Except he only works by pretending to just be a cog in the wheel? So no. Steve = Carrot is a pretty good thing, though!

Tumblr succeeds despite everything about it, I really have no idea why. And yet I use it constantly. @__@

I was thinking of Coulson as the best fit for Vetinari too! He's the one who best gives off the feeling that he knows literally everything that's going on and how to deal with it (or at least give you the very strong impression that he knows how to). But yeah, he doesn't have sharpness or presence at all.

I think I'll get the fic recs sorted out some time over the weekend, and then start queuing things on monday. (...."Queuing" does not look like a word!)

Tumblr's just so bloody hard to use! Everything I look for requires like ten minutes of going "?!!?" at various links on the help pages. But for this rec thing in particular I'm thinking that it's strangly convenient in how it's a pretty asocial social networking site. It's pretty easy to find people, but there doesn't have to be much social pressure or interaction for anybody to get at the shiny stuff that someone else posts. (Although people can get really wigged out about who's following and unfollowing them, but mostly I feel like it's pretty low pressure.)

Ha, you're getting actual information out of the help pages? YOU ARE DOING BETTER THAN ME. But yeah, 'asocial social networking site' seems to really describe it. (Of course, there is still drama, because these are people, but...)
